ABOUT
The Blog.
RollingPlainsIP is a Kenya-based intellectual property thought leadership platform founded in 2023 to advance informed conversations on Intellectual Property (IP) law, innovation policy, and public interest.
Intellectual property rights are granted not merely to reward creators, but to serve the broader public good — by encouraging innovation, enabling knowledge dissemination, and promoting sustainable economic development. RollingPlainsIP examines this balance critically and constructively, exploring how IP protection can both empower rights holders and strengthen society.
Through in-depth commentary and analysis, the platform covers copyright, trademarks, patents, industrial designs, farmers’ rights, artificial intelligence, biodiversity, and IP commercialisation within Kenya and across emerging innovation ecosystems. Its mission is to bridge legal doctrine, policy, and practical application.
About Me: Founder, Editor and Author.
RollingPlainsIP was founded by Keziah Auma, an Advocate with eight years’ experience in commercial litigation and advisory practice specializing in intellectual property law. She is a registered Patent Agent with the Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI), a Certified Professional Mediator, and holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Cape Town. She is also a WIPO Academy Alumna of the World Intellectual Property Organization.
Keziah is a member of the Internet Society (Kenya Chapter), the International Intellectual Property Association, and the Law Society of Kenya.
Through her legal practice, Keziah provides services focused on:
IP registration (patents, trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs)
IP protection strategy
Licensing and commercialisation guidance
Policy engagement and advisory
Training on IP management for creatives, researchers, and SMEs
Her work ensures intellectual property is not only protected, but strategically leveraged to generate economic and societal value.
In January 2026, she launched the RollingPlainsIp Free Online IP Law Legal Aid Clinic — the first initiative of its kind in Kenya — offering pro bono IP guidance to, creatives, innovators and small businesses who would otherwise lack access to specialised support.
A passionate photographer, Keziah connects with creatives personally and professionally, using her expertise to promote respect for original work and advance public understanding of intellectual property as a tool for both rights holders and society.
